CMHC Reports Brantford Home Starts Up- 21 Jan 2010
Preliminary data released today by CMHC show that there were 317 new home starts in the Brantford Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) last year. Although starts were behind by about one-quarter as compared to 2008, new home construction activity increased during the second half of the year. Starts were supported by demand for single-detached homes, while much of the decline in starts activity was a result of fewer townhouse starts.
Comparing the fourth quarter of 2009 with that of 2008, starts rose by 1.2 per cent. “Single-detached homes continue to sustain the new home market in Brantford”, said Sarah Fong CMHC’s Senior Market Analyst for Hamilton and Brantford. “Although there were fewer starts last year, the larger home types such as single-detached and semi-detached homes held up fairly well,” added Fong.
